I was speaking with my wonderful friend and accountability buddy from my 10K business mastermind group this morning about my resignation from my job of over 21 years. He recommended to me that I look at my process of endings and new beginnings. And I found it interesting because when I thought about it, I definitely have a process. It has changed so much since I was younger. Back then I would just stop something and that was it. With years I have realized that I do go through a process, and it is much the same process that I take my clients through.
I believe that in order to leave anything or any place, we must first understand why we were there in the first place. It comes from that place of honoring. No matter what the situation. I have found that when I didn’t do that completely I either manifested the same situation with a different cast of characters, or else had some pieces to finish. In order to truly go forward, we need to let the past rest peacefully.
I have been in the Spanish department at the University of Minnesota in some type of capacity for over 26 years total. I started there when I was 19 and now I’m 45. My whole adult life has been spent at the university. So, the decision to leave wasn’t taken lightly.
Many years ago I created my business and I have had the dream to one day do it full time. I held on to the vision and knew that I would know when it was time to leave. Many people told me that I would have to just take that jump off the cliff and just trust. I always said that I would never jump off a cliff, however, I would take giant leaps of faith. I don’t believe in being in panic mode or grasping for anything that comes my way. So, I gradually prepared my foundation for my business, and continued to teach at the university. One day I told a client of mine that in order for her to leave a situation she would need to understand why she had been there for so long. I also knew it was a wonderful mirror for me. And during that week, I realized what it was. I teach people about their passions and their dreams with the same foreign language model I have used all my life with teaching. And it is unique to how I work . It is an excellent example of how both spirituality and foreign languages have something in common. Once I knew that, I could truly appreciate my whole life and what I had done all these years.
There were some other pieces that I needed to do also before the decision would become clear. I had set my financial goal to replace my salary at the university and have money for insurance and I was focusing and reaching that goal little by little. Then one of my mentors recommended that I write down everything else that I would need to be fulfilled in my business. As I did that, I realized that I had all of them. I work with people who truly want to learn, who are spiritual, who work hard, and don’t make excuses. They have a true gift to bring to the world and they have incredible integrity. And the best part of all…..I didn’t have to correct papers! J Once I realized it, I heard a voice that said it was time to make a decision. So, last Thursday night I decided to leave the security I had always known in the Spanish department. On Friday two more clients signed on and I had reached my goal. But the decision had already been made. Spirit was just telling me that I am supported.
Endings are always two fold. They are exciting because of the new possibilities and sad for what we leave behind at times. It could be past dreams, promises, and incredible friendships. As I am going through this transition I am honored at all the phenomenal people I have worked with. I had been blessed with an awesome boss, incredible colleagues, and dear office mate. And like true friends, they wish me well, even though they are sad to see me go. And like those friends who will stay with me, more friends arrived on the day of my announcement. You see, that is how true endings work. When honored and processed it can be beautiful and open to more abundance than previously thought possible.
My coach once said, how you do anything is how you do everything. How do you do endings and beginnings? Do you have your foundation in place? Do you see what you personally need to see in order to fully go into your future with all your brilliance?
I invite you to check out what I have to offer if you are ready to make some changes in your life and don’t know what they are yet. That’s what I love helping people uncover.
Have fun creating one more day in your reality.
