Some of you might be saying Spanish, French, Chinese, Russian, and those are all good guesses. The one that is the most important and which will get you the best communication with everyone is the language of your passions. Some call it the soul, essence, vital energy, and it all boils down to the same thing. What truly makes you tick? What energizes you and makes you completely unique?
I began learning Spanish when I was 13 because I loved the passion I felt with the language, the people and the culture. I was looking for more passion in my life, more excitement and found it by studying Spanish. Back then in Minnesota very few people studied Spanish and most thought I was a bit crazy to study it so much, get a B.A., then a M.A., and finally teach it. Now the story is different.
Little did I know back when I was 13 that I would take all the knowledge I had gained learning a foreign language and teaching it for over 21 years, and begin to teach people the language of their own soul – their passion. It has taken me over 35 years to get to this place to see the connections, to see that my whole life has prepared for this moment. Spanish has been an integral part of my life, from teaching at the University of Minnesota to thousands of students, to studying shamanism in Peru (where Spanish is spoken), and a multitude of other practices I have done. The work that I have created for myself is a combination of all of those passions, and as I am happy doing what I love, I get to truly help people shift their lives, their perspectives and their journey in life. I help them discover their mission that they are being called to do.
As a Spanish Language teacher at the University of Minnesota for over 21 years I have learned a lot about language acquisition and culture acquisition. There is a process and a way to help people to speak well within two years time. And we do it by immersing that person in the language for the time they are with us every day. I find it interesting that we understand the need for practice, commitment, and dedication with a foreign language, and when it comes to who we truly are, our goals, and our visions then we don’t feel it needs as much commitment. When we have been out of touch with what makes us tick, and we don’t have any language for it, then we kind of float along. We will gravitate to people who are in the same boat as we are, and leave out tremendous possibilities.
