This past week has been an intense roller coaster for many. Seeing things that need to shift, and possibilities of what that might mean. In times like these, it’s great to bring in a balance, and it starts with your big why.
I have talked in the past of how important it is to know what you want for your life. It is what helps you get to where you are going, and it is a tangible thing to hold out there. Also, when you first work to change your life, then you are more empowered to change the lives of those around you.
However, there is something that goes much deeper. It is the core of who you are. It is that bigger why of what you do. What you value, a true piece of who you are. It doesn’t change. For me, it is nature and animals. It’s where I find comfort and what has always captivated me. I know that the work I do helps shift the inner nature of people so that the outer nature also shifts. Nature is the mirror within us all.
When you have moments where things seem tough, or things are going like they should, it’s important to turn to that inner why. It is what sees you through. It’s what explains to you why you need to make that next call, go to that next meeting, etc.
There are many ways you can find what it is. Look at your checkbook. Where do you write the majority of your checks to? Is it environmental organizations, food, homeless shelters, politics, classes for self improvement. What you spend your money on is a great indicator of one of your big why’s.
What is one thing that fascinates you? What could you talk passionately about for hours without stopping? What is the thing that breaks your heart or ticks you off? That is your big why. That is your movement.
The challenge here is to know that there are many ways to create around that movement. The how is something totally different. Once you know what really drives you, you also know what can sustain you when you don’t know where to turn.
Have fun exploring what your inner driver is telling you. Your why that is calling to you. When you have that foundation, it is amazing the things you can accomplish.
