I was reminded yet again when I attended some training with my coach these past few days about the importance of messaging, and how it can really get people crazy and stuck. I continue to go to all of her events because I’m always learning more, and this is what I have observed over the years about messaging.
- Don’t make it complicated. Many people feel that it isn’t creative or intriguing enough, and want to add all kinds of things to their message. Really what is happening is that you want to bring more creativity into your life. Your message doesn’t need it. You do.
- People second guess a great message, and continue to tweak it. The reality is our message evolves over time. Pick something and run with it for 9 months to a year, and then you can see how it evolves over time.
- Don’t wait for your message to be perfect before you get clients. So many people tell me that they can’t do their business until their message is perfect. There are thousands of people who have 6 figure businesses and didn’t have a great message. They just talked about what they do and shared their brilliance. And that’s what you can do also.
- People buy you. They don’t buy what you do. I know so many people who say to me that they do 6 sessions of a certain modality, and then some other modality. People really don’t care what you do, they care that you can get them out of their pain. When you make it about your modality, most often you are hiding and not stepping into your own magnificence. The modality is a tool. YOU are what they want.
So, what’s YOUR message? Make it simple. Then get out there and get more clients. They have been patiently waiting for you to help them ease their pain.
