I have heard this statement from a lot of potential clients. I would be able to x, y or z once I knew my mission. If only I knew my mission then I would be able to finally take care of: Pick one (or more): my chaotic (dysfunctional) relationship, my cluttered home, my dissatisfying job, my physical challenge(s), my money situation, my procrastination, my lack of confidence, my lack of spiritual direction.
People have all kinds of craziness in their lives and know they are being called to do something about it. One of my current mentors said this phrase the other week and it stuck with me. “How I live my life is how I do my business.” And I will take it a step further, “How I live my life is a reflection of me.” It doesn’t matter where in your life something isn’t working….it is a reflection of who you are at this time. It is a major clue in what you have the opportunity to work with.
I remember coming back from a week of intense shaman work, and excited about the possibilities. Many in class were bummed out that they had to go to work right away and didn’t have time to integrate all they learned. They mentioned how envious they were of me that I was a teacher and had summer break. I didn’t have to go to work. I could stay at home.
Little did they know…..
I returned home to find that my home was completely trashed. Yes, I had left it messy, and had a lot of my own personal clutter. However, my son and at that time romantic partner had messed it up even more. Dirty dishes were everywhere, more piles of junk appeared, the yard was a complete mess, and there was hardly any floor space to be seen. When I went home after that life changing week, I walked in and cried.
In front of my eyes was MY LIFE. And I saw it. It would have been convenient for me to blame others for the mess I saw and continue searching for my mission. What was in front of me was just one of the wonderful opportunities I got to see myself. My mission…..to clean my house and ultimately uncover the real ME. What was interesting is that every time I wanted to escape my home and what it was teaching me, I would call up friends to go out. Nobody was available, many were on vacations….I was on my own to pick up my own mess.
One of the things I saw in some journals I was looking at was the fact that I complained about my house for over 10 years and nothing changed. I changed little by little but it was difficult. Once I was in a program and had guidance and help to see those pieces of me represented in my house, small miracles began to occur. I had to clear my clutter by myself, but I had mentors to guide me through it.
So, many of you may be asking how my life changed when I tackled the issues my house had for me. 5 years later I can say that I have only 1/4 or less of the possessions that I previously had. The 9 year relationship that I was in disintegrated before my very eyes, my son became more of his own man, I found the love of my life, we bought a house, moved, got married, and now I am launching my business in a very empowered way.
When I moved I consciously let go. I fixed up everything that needed repair and left it in exquisite condition for the next people to occupy it. The past baggage I had was consciously dealt with. I saw what things represented and let them go. I really wanted to just bail and leave. However, I knew the lessons in my house at that time would follow me. I was determined to put an end to what I was blocking once and for all.
Do I still have things I am dealing with? Of course. We all do.
That is what a mission is…..constantly learning and growing and advancing. We will only truly complete our mission when we die. And until then the journey is wonderful and full of opportunities to shine.
So, what is your “block” in your life that is your greatest opportunity to see your mission and purpose in life? How will it help you define who you are? How are you going to work with it?
I invite you to contact me if you are ready for guided help along the way to discover more of who you are at this moment and what your mission is. That’s what I love to do and what I do very well.
